We are pleased to announce the launch of our new website.
A World of Difference
Tiny droplets of water, caught in the heart of a flower are magnified to extremes. Massive landscapes are depicted in the in the pupil of the drop. Shifting the perspective on the way we see the world.
What is big becomes small, what is small becomes big. Looking into and through - creating a world that can be magical if we take the time.
Journeys and favourite places can be found in the most unlikely places, in the minds eye, in a droplet of rain running down the window.
The work seeks to inspire the viewer to take their own journey, discover their own favourite place, to applaud the detail and revel in the magnificent, to allow minds to wander in different places to celebrate a world of difference.
Letting in the Light were commissioned by North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust to work with the communities that use Harplands Hospital, Stoke-On-Trent, to create an artwork for the entrance to the hospital wards. Creative workshops ranging from dance to wax resist were held with both Staff and Service Users at the hospital. The workshops focused on peoples 'favourite places' whether that was having a cup of tea with a close friend or sitting on top of the Roaches. The workshops then developed, by looking at journeys, at how we get to our favourite places, at the world that exists beyond the hospital walls.
A World of Difference aims to reflect these ideas by taking the viewer to another place, in the droplets of water caught in the petals of flowers are magnificent local landscapes.
Taking a journey through the hospital the viewer can see the progression of the project, from a mural in Ward 4 to the quotes in Hazelhurst. The flower images too are reflected, this time without the landscape . . . allowing the viewer to configure their own favourite place.
After a period of consultation the final work was installed in the reception area.
