Personalised Learning-Taking Choice Seriously Conference Management

Letting in the Light were commissioned to manage the Personalised Learning:Taking Choice Seriously conference that took place on 25th June at Staffordshire University.

Personalised learning is an idea which puts the learner in the driving seat.
It challenges the shallow version of learning promoted within the present education system and proposes a new approach where learners themselves make informed choices about their learning. 'Taking choice seriously' addresses issues of key importance to all learners and educators: from schools to home-based settings, from community and adult learning through to youth work.

The conference was introduced by Peter Humphreys from the Centre for Personalised Education Trust and facilitated by Mark Webster, from Staffordshire University's Creative Communities Unit.

Keynote speakers were Tony Jeffs of Durham University, co-author of the influential book, Informal Education, Terri Dowty, from Action on Rights for Children, Professor Ian Cunningham from the Centre for Self-Managed Learning and Dr Tim Rudd from Futurelab.

Keynote speakers were followed by a break out session where conference delegates were given the opportunity to have their say about the challenges.
Key issues were be fed back to the conference at the end of the day.
