The Big Picture - January - August 2008

The Big Picture has been a project to create the biggest photo album in the West Midlands and an attempt to set a world record. Anyone could add their favourite pictures of family, friends, local landmarks, pets etc. There were events taking part at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery and around the City running from February until June 2008. The project was a tool to get people to engage in digital photography and for people to visit cultural venues that may not have had access previously.

At the end of June The Big Picture collected over 100,000 photographs, which were used in a word record attempt to create the largest photo mosaic in the world.

Throughout the project the
The Big Picture was featured heavily on Midlands Today.

Letting in the Light were commissioned to project manage the Stoke part of the
The Big Picture
by Stoke-On-Trent City Council's Cultural Development Team.

A large photo frame was installed in the Museum Foyer for people to add their photos and workshops took part in the Museum and out in the City so that people could take part easily. The biggest workshop run was at the last Stoke City match of the season, that saw them being promoted to the Premier League, with over 28,000 participants!

The Stoke part of the project contributed the 3rd highest number of images in the West Midlands.
